Nedbank Cup Title Successfully Defended by Whale Coast City FC

The 2022/2023 Nedbank Cup final was successfully defended by Whale Coast City FC when they beat Gansbaai City FC 1-0 at Hawston Sports Grounds on Sunday 16 October 2022.

They will represent us at the Provincial Nedbank Cup playoff to be held soon.

2022/2023 Season Kicks Off

The 2022/2023 SAFA Overberg Regional Leagues Season has kicked off the past weekend when the SAFA Overberg Regional 3rd Division KO Cup qualifying matches were played.

Last season finalists, Future Generations FC beat newcomers Golden United FC from Bredasdorp 5-4 on penalties after ending all square at 1-1.

The Round of 16 in Nedbank Cup, Premier Cup and 3rd Div KO Cup starts this coming weekend, 3/4 September 2022.

Lucky Girls FC are RWL Champions

Lucky Girls FC from Botriver have finally clinched the elusive RWL title for the first time and will be representing the SAFA Overberg Region at the Regional RWL Playoffs. The date and venue is yet to be determined.

They clinched both RWL and u13 titles this season, indicating that the development is in place to ensure competitive football will be around for quite a while.

The Spectator Issue # 14 out

KO Day of Finals venue determined

The annual SAFA Overberg KO Day of Finals has been set for Sunday 2 October 2022 and the venue is Glaskasteel Sports Grounds in Bredasdorp.

The short program is at 11:00 the 3rd Div KO Cup Final; at 13:00 the Premier Cup Final; and then at 15:00 the Nedbank Cup Final.

We will be looking to live stream this day for those unable to attend.

2022/2023 Season Kicks Off

The SAFA Overberg 2022/2023 Season is set to kick off on Sunday 28 August with the qualifying matches of the 3rd Division KO Cup of 2022.

Having 20 teams in our 3rd Division, there is necessity to have prelim matches to bring the next round down to 16 teams competing.

These matches officially start our 2022/2023 season and ushers in an exciting time in Overberg football.

Pentech U19 Day of Finals

The Pentech U19 Challenge Series Day of Finals was hosted in Hawston on Sunday 21 August 2022.

The Bowl Final between FC Grabouw and Blue Angels FC kicked off at 09:00 and produced for much of the match a tough engagement. Blue Angels then took the initiative and scored to win 4-1 and take the trophy.

The Plate Final was a one sided affair where Mighty Eagles FC completely routed Moses Stars FC by 9-1 to claim the Plate Trophy.

The Shield Final was a Hermanus derby between Salim United FC and Vivo United Soccer Academy. The derby was as tough as tit was hard with Vivo taking their chances and taking the Shield trophy 3-0.

The Championship Trophy Final was between Kleinmond Young Stars FC and Royal Swallows Overberg FC which was live streamed on YouTube for those at home unable to attend.

At full time the teams could not be seperated as it was 2 all. The final would go to penalties and here the Kleinmond boys took it 5-3 to claim the Pentech u19 Challenge Series of 2022 Championship.

SAFA Overberg Awards Rescheduled

The annual SAFA Overberg Awards Evening has been rescheduled to Sunday 18 September 2022 at the Swartberg Primary School Hall in Caledon.

Regional Leagues Pre-Season Meeting

The 2022/2023 Season Pre-Season Meeting took place on Saturday 6 August 2022 in Hermanus at the Whale House Musuem.

With 70 clubs participating in the Regional Leagues this season, it was an exciting time to be part of SAFA Overberg. IFA7 brought a presentation on what is to be expected at the Overberg 7s Championship Tournament and the road to Chile 2023. Mr Gary Walbrugh sharing the information to a welcoming audience.

Referee's Development Officer, Mr Aaron van Schalkwyk shared the new Law changes that will be in play this season, as well as previous encounters of dispute in the refereeing department.

Mr Martiens Konstabel, Regional Treasurer also attended to take any questions the teams might have in regard to finances.

After all the briefings and questions, the teams participated in the KO Cup draw procedures to determine how their 2022/2023 season would start.

Regional DC Cases Outcomes

The Regional Disciplinary Committee has finalised a few cases the past weekend and have submitted their outcomes to the League.

The Complaint by Mighty Blues FC against Jende Cosmos FC in the 3rd Division was heard and the result turned around from a win to Jende Cosmos to a 0-0 draw.

The Complaint by Real Attackers FC in their match against Early Birds FC in May was dismissed and the result remains as is. Effectively relegating Real attackers FC to the Premiership Division after many years in the Championship. The 2007/2008 Champions will now ply their trade in the lower tier.

The player Thabang Tjola was fined for his assault on the referee and will not be aloowed to play again until he has paid his fine in full.

Pentech U19 Challenge Series Rd # 3

With the first round of home and away being concluded this past weekend, we see the trendsetters; we see the boys being seperated from the men; and the wannabees relegated to lower levels.

On Saturday 16 July, Salim United FC won 2-0 against Moses Stars FC; Kleinmond Young Stars FC thrashed FC Grabouw 22-0.

On Sunday 17 July, Blue Angels FC beat Royal Swallows Overberg 2-0; Vivo UNited overcame Mighty Eagles FC 6-4 in Hawston.

Pentech U19 Challenge Series Rd # 2

The exiting Pentech u19 Challenge Series is delivering on its promise with fantastic matches being produced weekly.

On Saturday 9 July, Salim United FC trouned FC Grabouw by 7-1; Kleinmond Young Stars FC were way too strong for Moses Stars FC and beat them 7-2.

On Sunday, Mighty Eagles FC beat Blue Angels FC 3-0 and the Royal Swallows Overberg FC beat Vivo United FC 2-1.
